Location: Coal Harbour

For the ultimate in high-end style, luxury and service- I strongly recommend a stay at The Fairmont Pacific Rim. Situated in the heart of Vancouver's Coal Harbour (near Stanley Park and across from the Canada Place Convention Centre) and offering spectacular views of the city, bay and mountains, this posh luxury hotel is a perfect balance of eye-pleasing aesthetics, extreme comfort and exceptional service. From the moment you arrive, you feel you are treated as a priority and it is obvious that the staff takes this seriously.

The exterior aesthetics of the Fairmont Pacific Rim is both striking and tranquil. The textured metal outdoor walls, the stone walkway leading over a small water pool with light falling water to the sides, the vintage cherry red Ferrari on display to the right of the entrance way, the sleek floor to ceiling glass entrance and doors all give the outside a polished, modern look and feel. Inside, the expansive lobby, with marble floors and reflective metal chandeliers, further accentuates

the feeling of chic and modern luxury.

This hotel boasts a top-notch staff, which helped to make our stay memorable. The moment we arrived, a friendly valet helped us remove the travel bags from our car and took the keys for parking (on a down note, both valet and self park at the Pacific Rim is a stiff $46/night, a little higher than most hotels in the area). The bell-staff was waiting to take our luggage to our room. I had made a request during my reservation for the highest floor possible in my room category, but they had placed me on a lower floor. After a quick and friendly chat with the front desk, they quickly moved me to a higher floor, which was appreciated.

The Fairmont's Signature Ofuro Room is simply stunning! This 450 ft corner suite (our guestroom was located on the 18th floor) offers striking panoramic views -an exciting cityscape from the bedroom area and expansive views of the breathtaking Coal Harbour, North Shore Mountains and Canada Place from the
washroom. This King bedded room offers contemporary décor, a supremely comfortable bed with luxury linens (though, I will note the pillows were a bit large and fluffy for my taste), 42" flat screen HDTV, alarm clock with included iPod connectivity, full desk area for working travelers, small refrigerator with pay bar and snacks- along with many other amenities.

Impressive is the technology offered in all Fairmont rooms. Our guestroom had small touch panels near the entrance door, bathroom and bed-side, which allow you to control things such as various room lighting options, privacy (do

not disturb) notices, and motorized room shades and drapes. Beyond that, an iPad2 which allow you to control just about everything you need from it - including all the above listed room items (and also including room temperature). Beyond that, you can use the iPad to make a reservation at their restaurant, Oru, order in-room services (which we did), make room requests, and handle check-out -just to name a few (just a note - consider joining the FREE Fairmont President's Club to take advantage of many benefits - including access to free guestroom WiFi - normally $15/day).

The spa bathroom is what really elevates the Signature Ofuro room. Separated from the main room by a wood framed, frosted glass sliding door and surrounded by floor to ceiling glass walls overlooking Coal Harbour (the adjoining glass wall facing the city is nearly blocked by the large, strategically-placed floor to ceiling vanity area, preserving privacy), this luxurious oversized marble washroom is the pinnacle of opulence. Highlights include a small wall panel to control lighting levels and shades (for those too shy to leave the windows uncovered), a large shower with stone interior, floor to ceiling glass and a luxurious rainfall shower head. A frosted glass door

separates the toilet area from the rest of the washroom. The vanity area is very large and well lit (depending on which lighting option you choose), and in the glass includes a built in television for select rooms (our room, unfortunately, did not include that feature, but did have a small television on the entrance wall of the bathroom). Comfortable terry bathrobes and slippers can be found in the room- great for lounging in after a shower or bath. By far, the jewel of the room is the Japanese deep soaker (Ofuro) jetted tub. Sitting in this tub, jets on, and gazing out over the tranquil water and mountains of Coal Harbour, is like a feeling you've been transported to a higher realm of being -where any problems or stress you may have will just melt and fall away. It's difficult to find enough positive words to describe this area.

The Fairmont has various additional options/benefits for their guests. For those seeking relaxation, pampering and body work, Fairmont Willow Stream Spa will be of service. Located on the same floor is a fully equipped, state of the art gym for those that desire to keep their workout routines while visiting (another benefit of the Fairmont President's Club are free workout clothes and shoes provided for you). Complimentary BMW car service is available to guests for drop off/pick up. Memorable and delicious fine dining can be found without having to step foot from the hotel, at Fairmont's pan-Asian restaurant Oru. Those looking for a more casual meal can enjoy the hotel's cafe/deli Giovane - featuring locally focused ingredients. The Fairmont Pacific Rim's Lobby Lounge features live music every night, and is THE weekend spot for both guests and the rich and beautiful of Vancouver- thus a great venue for those wanting to see and be seen.

With a commitment to absolute excellence and guest satisfaction, along with its striking looks, architectural detail and breathtaking city and harbour views, The Fairmont Pacific Rim is unmatched -possible THE best hotel in Vancouver!
