One of this wonderous cavern's unique features is the underground stream that runs along the width of the cave. The caves were formed by water erosion of earth and rock over thousands of years. Some of the same water remains to this day - moving in several places and pooling into small lakes. Horesback riding is a popular way to take in the natural beauty of the area. Many stables provide horses for riding near Townsend - including Cades Cove Riding Stable and Davy Crockett Riding Stable.
